Defining Destiny, LLC, provides executive coaching and career development for achievement-oriented professionals who also want to maintain a satisfying personal life.

The company was founded in 2004 by executive coach Barbara Somma, who uses her experience rising through the executive ranks at Johnson & Johnson--one of the world’s most respected pharmaceutical companies--as a solid grounding for understanding her clients’ aspirations and challenges.

Guided by the theme “Where Joy and Success Meet,” Defining Destiny helps clients nationwide to gain clarity and focus regarding their desires and develop action plans to achieve their goals and overcome obstacles they may face.  It also offers workshops, teleseminars and webinars on topics that include leadership, team development, personal branding and work/life balance.

Following a highly successful career spanning more than three decades with two pharmaceutical industry leaders, Barbara retired in 2003 from Johnson & Johnson as group director of business analytics and assessments for its Ortho-McNeil Pharmaceuticals Women’s Health Care and Primary Care businesses.  She decided her knack for coaxing improved performance from her team could help individuals and organizations become more successful.   To hone her innate coaching skills, Barbara entered Coach U’s Core Essentials Program and was one of its first seven certified graduates

Barbara received a master’s of business administration from Fairleigh Dickinson University in Teaneck, N.J., and a bachelor’s degree in biological science from Rutgers University in Newark.  She is a director-at-large of the Healthcare Businesswomen’s Association’s Atlanta chapter, and a member of the International Coach Federation, the Greater Sarasota Coaches Alliance, American Society for Training and Development and the Association for Psychological Type International.
